~Caribou~

Summer Caribou in Kenai Alaska. These big boys should be losing their velvet soon.  Summer 2003.

Aaron snuck right up on this guy.  My husband the stalker!

A herd of caribou about ten miles north of our cabin.

February 13-15th, 2006....Aaron and I finally went to the cabin, after leaving it alone in the winter for the last three months. The roads were pretty good all the way there, and the temps were surprisingly warm, in the 30s. We were blessed to see loads of caribou on the way north. We've never seen so many bou, at least a thousand we figure. They are incredibly creatures plowing through snow that is thigh deep for me. Their trails are testament to their durability. A perfect trail through three feet of snow all the way to the dirt. I suppose that is what happens when 200 hundred caribou follow each other single file. It appeared they may have been wintering in the area as we found a lot of old tracks, and they didn't seem to be moving anywhere in a hurry!
