MONTANA FALL 2007

FINALLY... we made it out into the wilderness for a camping trip.  Unfortunately since moving back to Montana, we haven't been in the woods as much as we are used to.  This was a very treasured weekend!  We made it high in the Rocky Mountains for some much needed rest!  I'm sure most people don't consider hiking to 8000ft rest.  But it was rest for the spirit.

The weekend before we'd planned on doing the same over night trip up in the mountains but there was too much snow and the clouds were too low.  We were blessed with a crystal clear weekend to hit the hills.

Once we got to the our lookout knob, it was time for some glassing.

Nothing like camping in the snow!  It was pleasant in the sun, but as evening progressed the temperatures dropped steadily!

We did see some deer before the sun set on us. Then it was off to the tent.

Kodi and Tundra were so excited to see snow, and were probably more excited to get out for a real wilderness trip!

We all packed into the tent and somehow we all slept in the main part.  The huge vestibule area wasn't good enough for them apparently!

The skies were amazing that night. No moon = lots and lots of stars and a perfectly crisp milky way.   I can't think of many places and times I've felt closer to God.

Dawn came COLD but beautiful!  We fixed some coffee and then headed to our glassing knob.

We saw a number of deer across the valley, a lone elk, and two lone goats. One looked to be a fine billy.  He was standing silhouetted against the skyline for about ten minutes soaking in the morning sun!  The dogs enjoyed the sun too.  Kodi was pretty sore from the hike the day before!  He's getting old, but hiking still brings out the puppy in him!

Some more scenery pictures!  Pretty awesome and rocky country!
