SHED HUNTING, 2005

May 8-9th, 2005

We weren't even nearly to our stopping point and poor Kodi was already roasting. Nothing like running around with a winter coat on.

Aaron and Kodi glassing the hills.

Aaron kicking back glassing the hills behind our camp for bears. Spotted a nice black bear.

Sunset above downtown Anchorage.

The glow of city lights, with the never ending summer sunset in Alaska.

Almost walked right past this nice little fresh shed. It has lots of points for being so small.

April 25, 2005

Aaron thinks he is pretty cool. While I was driving about 50 mph on our way home from the cabin, he said, "Stop, turn around, I saw a moose antler!"

This Aaron's sixth moose antler of 2005.

I've probably turned around 50 times since we've been in Alaska. This is the second antler he's seen while driving.

Kodi's first find of the year.

March 21, 2005

After a long day of no luck, on our way back to the car Aaron spotted this beauty.

February 7th, 2005

Aaron gave us hope with this one! At least it was bigger than the two we found the day before. We were worried we might find even smaller ones.

We picked up the shed, and noticed at least four moose in the near vicinity! I think this moose was wondering what in the heck we were doing with his antler!

February 6th, 2005

Not  200 yards from the car Aaron spotted this little moose shed.  He spotted it ahead of where I would have eventually walked...He's a cheater!

We figured we couldn't get any smaller than Aaron's find earlier in the morning!  On our way out, maybe 50 yards from the car this caught my eye...a whopper!

The smallest sheds ever found!

January 31,2005

We headed for the hills! Hike miserable miles and straight up, but at last a little reward.

Of course it is important to say that Aaron walked right by this one- maybe three feet.  I was right behind him so that now puts me at four so far!

January 30th..

After trudging for hours, coming across other "man" tracks, and getting very frustrated because of those "man tracks" at last success.

Aaron and I said we'd find at least 5 fresh sheds each, that puts me at 3/5.  Aaron has 2/5.

January 23, 2005

I spot the first shed of the day! Could have nearly missed this one!

Amazing how this whopper was hidden under the snow! Another beauty to add to my antler collection.

LOOKS like Aaron found a real whopper then......

Aaron pulls it out of the snow....What happened to the whopper! (looks like it shrunk!) I win again.

January 16, 2005...

First day out scouting for moose wintering areas.  Guess we found one!

Aaron and I spotted this moose antler at the same time. It was only 15 feet from the road we were walking on.

On our way out, we came across some chewed up trees (signs of moose)...I found this base sticking out of the ground.....

YIKES...what a monster. We had to dig it out of the ice and snow.  Must of dropped earlier this winter! The first non-typical moose antler we've found yet!

Some pictures after we cleaned it up!
